BOOKS

Making a Living
Without A Job

by Barbara Winters

I enjoyed reading this book and thought much of the information in it was applicable to my situation as an artist. Especially helpful to me were the suggestions on multiple profit centers.

Lost Soul Companion

by Susan M. Brackney

This little book cheered me up and on when I felt really down about my art career.  It will remind you why you do art in the first place.  I think it will appeal to a younger audience or those who suffer deeply with art career-related blues.  I love the starving artist recipe section.

Woman Made is a non-profit organization supporting women in the arts.  They feature a multitude of exhibition opportunities, professionalism workshops and lectures helpful to artists.  Their membership is international in scope and they have widely respected art professionals serving as jurors for exhibitions.

I co-authored the EXHIBITING PROFESSIONALISM MANUAL with the Executive Director, Beate Minkovski in order to help artists create superior presentation tools.  To this end, it contains useful introductory information for artists interested in exhibiting their work.  The manual is $10 (this includes shipping) and is available through the Woman Made website. The manual is free to participants in the Exhibiting Professionalism or Career Day workshops.
